Both these departments have started offline classes in colleges and universities for final semester/year students of undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG) and diploma courses since January 11. But so far no decision has been taken regarding commencement of offline classes for students of other semesters.
The SRC order stated that the department of higher education is authorized to take appropriate decisions with regard to the date of re-opening of colleges/higher education institutions and hostels under its control/superintendence/supervision by following the guidelines/SOP issued by the government.
Similar direction was given to the department of skill development and technical education with regard to the date of re-opening of engineering colleges and other technical education/skill development institutions and hostels under the control of this department.
“The Covid-19 guideline of SRC has allowed our department to reopen colleges and universities. We will discuss this matter in detail and take a decision on starting offline classes for other semester students very soon,” said higher education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo on Saturday.
Institutions functioning under these two departments had started commencing physical classes for final semester/year students of UG, PG and diploma courses from January 11. The government had taken this decision after considering the improvement in Covid-19 situation in the state and realising huge academic loss of students due to discontinuation of physical classroom teaching since March last year.
The department has also come up with examination and result publication schedule for penultimate (previous semester of the final semester of the UG and PG final year students) and final semester tests of final year UG and PG students.
However, the department has not given any scheduled date for starting classes of Plus III first year students. First year classes of PG courses will be started soon after completion of the admission process. For other UG and PG semesters, the colleges and universities have continued holding online classes.
