Can a GameStop play out in India? Short answer: no. But similar concepts can work well. Think ETFs.


In India, it is not easy to look at the positions of hedge funds and take an opposite one. Moreover, going short in Indian markets is restricted to 200 stocks. However, if ETFs and index funds, which also aim to take on huge institutional players, acquire a certain heft, they have to be taken seriously.

WallStreetBets, a Reddit subgroup of 6 million retail investors, almost managed to eat hedge fund Melvin Capital for breakfast. But a hedge fund is not easy to digest.
